Subconscious Comedy

I picked up a ride-share client and we spoke about improv comedy. I asked him if he’d do an exercise with me, and he agreed.

“Okay, so you have to name five things from a topic I give you.”

“Sounds good,” he said.

“Name five characteristics of an athlete.”

“Hark working, disciplines, muscles, strength and perseverance.”

We moved to the next exercise.

“Okay, so in this next game we can only ask questions, if you respond with an answer you’re out. Now remember: Say the first thing that comes to mind without hesitating, oftentimes we say things that surprise us, but these are things that come from our subconscious.

I’ll start:

Me: What is your name?

Kai: Where does your name come from?

Me: What is your number?

Kai:Wouldn’t you like my number?

I burst out laughing. That’s a rhetorical question. I forgot to tell you, it’s not allowed in this game.

He laughs.

We continued talking. But this question made me aware of subconscious thoughts. Because I didn’t resist mine, it didn’t come as a surprise when he asked me for my number.
