These are some of the best books that I’m reading right now

“Friendaholic” by Elizabeth Day
I really enjoyed listening to Elizabeth Day’s memoir, which focuses on friendships and her struggles as a people-pleaser. It dives deeply into the many types of friendships we experience: the ones we hold onto for no particular reason, the ones we have while waiting for the next best connection, the ones we question because of gender dynamics, and those we know we should end but can’t seem to let go of.

“Impro” by Keith Johnstone
Keith Johnstone’s Impro is a must-read for anyone interested in the structure of improv comedy. My biggest takeaway from this book was the importance of character building and how it forms the foundation for spontaneous creativity.

“The Secret History” by Donna Tartt
This is the second time I’ve read Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, and I’ve read all of her books, which I cherish. The biggest takeaway from this one is its portrayal of the complex dynamics of college life, particularly the relationship between students and their teachers. The novel explores the inner workings of friendship and the desire to fit in, with a dark, intriguing lens.

“The Three-Body Problem” by Cixin Liu
The Three-Body Problem is a compelling and mind-bending science fiction novel that challenges our understanding of reality, physics, and human nature. It’s a brilliant exploration of science, history, and the future, wrapped in a gripping narrative.

“Walk Off Wedding” by Maren Moore
Walk Off Wedding is a fun read, with interesting characters and an engaging plot. The story, filled with humor and insight into relationships, made me think about how we navigate life’s unexpected events and the choices we make when faced with them.

“Love in Lowercase” by Francesco Miralles
There’s something absolutely unique about the storyline in Love in Lowercase. The main character is a man observing his romantic interest with an almost obsessive focus, and the story doesn’t unfold in the typical way. The characterization is dynamic and complex. It reminds me of writers who juggle too many passions and help too many people. In one section of the story, the protagonist is asked by another writer to finish his book, and I loved how this played out, especially in the context of the coffee shop settings where secrets unfold.
